Global Financial Crisis – Education – Research

- Abstract -

JEL I-21, O-30

By performing investigations on evaluating science and higher education in the period of global financial crisis, based on the values of the past two centuries, we need to draw attention to the issues which may speed up our falling into line with the European Union, and facilitate our future successes. In order to achieve this, changes supporting development in higher education and science are unavoidable and essential. Therefore professional research organisations need to be where the intellectual concentration is adequate, and financial conditions can be fulfilled. The institutions of higher education supported and strengthened by international accreditation, can be competitive in cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and innovative enterprises. For further development it is essential, to have substantial reform of the structure of higher education, to expand training that will strengthen the economic potential of the country, decreasing parallelisms and the concentration of professional forces. The ‘kind-of-research’ carried out by institutes of higher education needs to be professionalised, and should apply to PhD training and PhD thesis as well. The labour market and competitive economy only recognise training with practical skills and scientific knowledge, mainly of BSc level.
